Marah is a genus of perennial cucumber relatives native to California. Five of the six recognized species are native to California with 2 of the species found nowhere else. All manroot species have in common a tendriled vine that emerges from a large underground tuber in the early spring to produce spike-covered fruit with large, hard seeds.
